OUR STORY

Generational Family Farming

The land on which Jacob's Creek Farm started, was settled in 1808 by Emily's ancestor Malcolm McCallum. In its earliest years of settlement it became a center of community life in the region, providing a Presbyterian church, a school, a post-office, a general store, and much more. On the foundations set by these early pioneers, our family is seeking to return the land and its resources to its once vibrant, community focused history.

We (Josh, Emily, and our six children) moved home to Hattiesburg in 2024 after 20 years of mission work and church planting to start Jacob’s Creek Farm. After our family was struck by two major health crises, we found ourselves on a journey to discover healing through whole, regeneratively-raised food. Believing strongly that in the beginning God created everything “very good”, we set out to steward our land using the God-given template provided to us in nature to the glory of God. We desire to minister in this way to the people of Hattiesburg and surrounding areas.

What Is Regenerative Farming?

Regenerative Agriculture is “Farming and ranching in synchrony with nature and the four ecosystem processes to repair, rebuild, restore, and revitalize ecosystem function, starting with life beneath the soil and expanding to life above.”

(Regenerative AG, Dr. Allen Williams)

Conventional farming is the antithesis of good ecosystem function. For years, modern agriculture at its core has been quantity over quality in an attempt to “feed the world” without taking into consideration how this exploitation will ultimately affect our soil, atmosphere, ecosystems, and even our bodies. Regenerative Agriculture at its root is the process of regenerating soil health, animal health, environmental health, and human health through the careful study of the natural order already provided in creation. Jacob’s Creek Farm was built on these regenerative principles, including no-till farming and adaptive rotational grazing. We strive to provide our community with health through food, farmed on carefully cultivated, nutrient-dense, and diverse farmland.
